Day 3: Outfitted

Something cozy
something blue
something sequined
something new...

[At last count I'm done shopping for two people on my list. I confess to having picked up a few small things (this was one) for myself along the way, but it was in the spirit of shopping local AND taking advantage of tax-free events. I wonder if I'm in the minority here or if treating oneself at Christmas is a common thing?]

Autumn Prep

Intentional double entendre - prep being short for both preparation and preparatory school. As we gear up for the seasonal transition into autumn (or rather, as the weather here has for the most part decided to mimic autumn) warmer layers on top of summer clothes make the shift a bit easier to handle. But mostly I just like the New England prep style; it always reminds me of back to school shopping for obvious reasons. It made me so happy when I was in Maine and Massachusetts recently when I saw the occasional New Englander clad in dockers and polos, looking like they were on their way to the coast/vineyard.

Throw on some bright red lips (I just bought my first, YSL was the one recommended to me at Sephora but I chickened out and bought the $10 version at CVS) and dark nail polish, and you're good to go.

Take Me To The Riviera

The recent buzz and press from the Cannes Film Fest has inspired a bit of French Riviera wishful-thinking...that, and I just started reading Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald, which is set in the 20s and begins on a beach "halfway between Marseilles and the Italian border."

Were starlet Rosemary Hoyt to be transported to the beaches of the French Riviera today (or better still, were I to be), here's what I envision her to strut the Croisette in:

April Showers

Like some kind of April Fool's prank, the rain (and um, freezing rain pellets) is here with a vengeance after such a lovely sunny and mild day yesterday.

The antidote to heading into a very wet weekend? Hot tea and pretty rain gear.
